what to expect in therapy

Therapy offers a space where you are seen, heard, and validated.

If you’re ready to get started, let’s make this as easy as possible. I know you have enough on your plate already!

Consultation

Start by setting up a free consultation, during which we will discuss what’s coming up for you, my approaches, and address any questions you have.

First session

If it makes sense to move forward, we will schedule an intake session. During this session we will discuss the process of therapy, how things have been for you, and what you’d like to change in your life.

meet weekly

Meeting over 3-4 initial sessions, we’ll set up a plan for our work together and also feel out if we are a good fit. We will also start to focus in on the work we are doing, clarifying our plan and what it will be like moving forward.

 FAQ

  • The length of time you will be in therapy depends on many different factors like time, finances, presenting concerns, and more. Typically, we will meet for weekly sessions to focus on the main issues that brought you in and then we may transition to meeting every two weeks. Sometimes people are only in therapy for a few months as they work on particular concerns, while others may be in therapy for years to address ongoing stressors, trauma history, and other issues. I will tell you that I have many long-term clients in my practice, particularly around issues related to trauma, eating disorder recovery, and complex grief. I am also glad to take on short-term clients as well, to focus on specific, time-sensitive issues.

  • That’s really up to do, but also depends on your location. I have in-person appointments available several days a week at my office in Poulsbo. Otherwise we can meet online using a secure Zoom format.

  • When I schedule a time for you, I set aside the time for you. If you have to cancel or request to change our appointment time, I ask for 24 hour notice to do so. The late cancellation charge is $100.

  • I have a set number of reduced rate slots in my practice. Please inquire if you’d like to know more.

  • I am an out of network provider. I am able to provide a superbill for any possible reimbursement from your insurance company.

Please contact your insurance company directly to learn more about your out of network benefits.
